FOR TERMITES, WHAT'S OLD IS NEW AGAIN

Evansville, IN (May 12, 2004) - The onset of warmer weather has brought with it a common spring problem - termites. As Indiana homeowners contact their pest control professional, many of them will discover that the newest, most effective professional termite treatments have a familiar "retro" feel.
First introduced half a century ago, liquid termite control is again en vogue, as pest control companies adopt newer, more effective treatments. "The trend in professional termite control is non-repellent liquid products," says Kevin Pass, of Action Pest Control in Evansville, IN. "These 'undetectable' products are providing the most effective termite control ever - even better than baiting systems."
Researchers agree. In a recent survey1, U.S. entomologists were asked which professional termite control they'd use if their own home had an infestation; they overwhelmingly preferred non-repellent, "undetectable" liquids, by a margin of more than two-to-one over baits. And pest control companies across the U.S., including Action Pest Control, share that preference. In a survey conducted by Pest Control Magazine2, over 70% of pest control professionals surveyed said they'd treat their own home with a liquid undetectable product if it had a termite infestation.
Unlike older products, non-repellent liquid treatments are undetectable - termites unknowingly forage throughout a treated area, quickly passing the termiticide throughout their population. "This allows for faster control of termites in your home," comments Pass. "In fact, the leading undetectable product, Termidor®, wipes out 100% of termites in 90 days - that's up to six times faster than baiting.
"Given that effectiveness, we are enthusiastically recommending undetectable liquids to homeowners," Pass says. In fact, since their introduction, undetectable liquids have been used to safeguard nearly 3 million homes from termites. Pass continues, "Since 2000, more homes have been treated with undetectable products than any other professional termite treatment - that's twice as many as the leading bait product."
As more effective termite products are being developed, manufacturers are also ensuring that these products are responsible. Just 8 ounces of active ingredient are used in a 100-gallon Termidor treatment. "The misconception among some is that we pump thousands of gallons of chemical around your home," says Pass. "Today, that's just not the case. The actual amount of active ingredient used in newer products is very small.
"These new undetectable products have gone through years of testing by the EPA and USDA to ensure that they're both effective AND responsible."
